The Houzier, the water spirit
Long, long ago in the Ardennes, a water spirit lived along the streams. People called him the Houzier, which means “man of the waters”.
He is not wicked at all, just mischievous. His greatest pleasure, when you walk past without seeing him, is to splash walkers and cover them in mud…
The Myrtillus Nectar
The Nutons, the little folk of the Ardennes, know all about the virtues of Vaccinium myrtillus, the bilberry: they eat it in elfish quantities, from root to leaf, nothing goes to waste.
Come rain or shine, wherever they are, they swear by Myrtillus. But what they love most of all is Brother Patidou’s bilberry jam. He alone knows how to make it.

The Kloks’Tomtes, the mountain dwarves
To make the fabulous Nectar, the Nutons called on the Kloks’Tomtes.
Dwarves of the high country, they live on the most inaccessible peaks of the mountains of Germany and Austria. Pale and sickly-looking, they have angular faces.
The Mawhot, the monster of the Meuse
A hoarse, piercing bellow, a heavy tread, a foul smell.
If you hear that, don’t turn around, run as fast as you can: it is probably the Mawhot. They say a strange creature lives at the bottom of the Meuse. It swims underwater from one end of the river to the other, from Revin to Liège. Depending on the country, it is called the Mawhotte in Belgium or the Mawhot in France.
